Prayer

Is prayer a monologue or a dialogue? Is it a set structure that you have to pray every single day? Is it just reading a set of words every single time that you pray? I used to think that all of these questions were statements. I used to think that I had to ask the Lord for forgiveness every single time that I pray. Well, this was a fear in my life that I have destroyed. But, let me tell you what prayer really is.

It is a free flow relationship with our best friend, the Lord Jesus Christ! Just think, how would you treat your best friend? You wouldn't always say sorry to him and ask for forgiveness. You wouldn't say a set dialogue to him every single time you see him. No, you would want to get to know him better. You would want to hang out with him. You would do everything you can to increase your relationship with him.

That is what we have to do with our Lord! We do not just get down on our knees to pray. We can raise our arms, leap for joy, bow down to him, and more. We can meditate, sleep, watch sermons, read a spiritual book, and even go on walks. It says in Philippians 4:6

Philippians 4:6
New International Version (NIV)

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

This verse has grabbed at me, because I have been dealing a lot with fear. So, when I have a fear, or start worrying, and being anxious, then I can start praying. Someone from my church told me that fear and prayer cannot be combined, which means that whenever I start worrying then I can start praying. That is so awesome!

I have 2 articles that you can read to further study what prayer is.
